Abstract

ABSTRACT   Wheat culture in the South of Brazil is predisposed to a great number of diseases capable of damaging it. The seeds can not only shelter but also transport many pathogen species, introducing them in the crop early and in a dispersed way, defying distances. Several of these pathogens have in the seeds their main transmission mechanism, however their incidence and severity vary from year to year according to several factors. This way monitoring must be continuous in order to supervise the qualitative and quantitative fluctuation of pathogens coupled to the seeds. This study’s objective is to evaluate the sanitary quality of wheat seed produce in the harvests of 2004 and 2005 in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The analysis were done in the Laboratório de Patologia de Sementes/FAEM/UFPel, using Blotter Test. A total of 400 seeds per sample were analyzed, these being distributed in 25 per Gerbox® and later incubated in a photoperiod of 12 hours light/12 hours of darkness at a temperature of 22°C ±3°C during seven days. Results showed an average incidence of 3.96% of Bipolaris sorokiniana, 3.08% of Fusarium graminearum, 0.04% of Colletotricum graminicola, 0.56% of Phoma sp., 33.52% of Alternaria spp., 0.21% of Curvularia sp., 0.02% of Periconia sp., and 1.00% of Aspergillus spp. and 3.35% of Penicillium spp.   Key-words: Triticum, seed sanity, fungi.
