Brian Campbell, Poet and freelance translator
Montreal-based poet, editor, literary critic, singer-songwriter and translator Brian Campbell is the author of Shimmer Report, (Ekstasis Editions, 2015), Passenger Flight (Signature Editions, 2009), Guatemala and Other Poems (1994) and Undressing the Night (2007), a translation of the selected poems of Nicaraguan-Canadian poet Francisco Santos. He is also the author of the  chapbook A Private Collection (Sky of Ink Press 2014), and the soon forthcoming book of photos and poetry, Remnants of Autumn (Sky of Ink Press, 2016).  His poetry, reviews, and essays have appeared in such literary magazines as The Antigonish Review, CV2, The New Quarterly, Prairie Fire, Evergreen Review, The Rover, Montreal Review of Books and The Saranac Review. His translations of poetry from Spanish have appeared in Ruptures and Indigo, and from French in carte blanche. A finalist in the 2006 CBC Literary Award for Poetry, in 2011 he received a Canada Council Grant towards the completion of Shimmer Report.  He is also the co-founder/editor of Sky of Ink Press, which prints quality chapbooks by emerging poets.Campbell’s independent music CD, The Courtier’s Manuscript, was released in 2002.  One song from the album, “To My Whimsical Love”, won a certificate of achievement from the 2001 International Unisong Competition (Hollywood, CA/London, UK). Reviews compare Campbell’s songwriting to that of Nick Drake, Hum and the Quick , and to a more famous name, Paul Simon. He continues to perform music, mostly in the Montreal area.Campbell is on the Quebec Writer’s Federation list of Writers in CEGEPS, and has conducted lectures and workshops in the schools both under that program the League of Canadian Poet’s National Poetry Month program.
