UM GEOPARK NA REGIÃO DE CAÇAPAVA DO SUL (RS, BRASIL): UMA DISCUSSÃO SOBRE VIABILIDADE E ABRANGÊNCIA TERRITORIAL / A GEOPARK IN THE REGION OF CAÇAPAVA DO SUL (RIO GRANDE DO SUL STATE, BRAZIL): A DISCUSSION ON VIABILITY AND TERRITORIAL LIMITS

Resumo

Este trabalho discute o potencial e os desafios para a implementação e eventual certificação de uma estratégia tipo geopark na região de Caçapava do Sul, situada na chamada ‘metade sul’ gaúcha e na bacia do Alto Camaquã, extremo sul do Brasil. Possuidora de um contexto geológico-geomorfológico de nível internacional, representado pelas unidades pós-orogênicas da Bacia do Camaquã, e de geoformas de singular importância ecológica e beleza cênica, a região ainda não conta com unidades de conservação da natureza, mas já apresenta iniciativas de educação geopatrimonial e possui públicos interessantes para o geoturismo. Discutem-se aqui cinco possíveis abrangências territoriais para um eventual geopark, sendo as mais indicadas aquelas em que Caçapava do Sul compartilhe estratégias com os municípios vizinhos de Santana da Boa Vista e Lavras do Sul.Abstract:This paper discusses the potential and the challenges aiming at the adoption and possible certification of a geopark strategy for the region of Caçapava do Sul, located at the Camaquã river highlands, in the ‘southern half’ of the Rio Grande do Sul State of southernmost Brazil. The region encompasses a geological-geomorphological context of international level, represented by the post-orogenic stratigraphic units of the Camaquã Basin, as well as a relief of singular ecological importance and scenic beauty. Despite this, the region lacks official protected areas. There are, however, some initiatives of geoheritage education and an interesting public for geotourism. Five possible territorial limits for a geopark in that region are herein discussed, the most indicated being those in which Caçapava do Sul shares strategies with the neighboring municipalities of Santana da Boa Vista and Lavras do Sul.Keywords: geoconservation; geotourism; geopark; sustainable development; territorial limits.
