Abstract

In this article, there is a continuity to two other studies that attempted to interpret the First Part of Duns Scotus’s Prologue to Ordinatio as a complex “anti-Averroistic” treatise. For that purpose, an analysis of the third argument of the “philosophers” against the necessity of the knowledge of supernaturally revealed truths shall be made. The analysis of that argument seems to be able to illustrate a specific form of “Averroism” and Scotus’s attitude on it, showing also, in a general sense, Scotist convictions about the relationship between theology and philosophy. This is the third of a series of four essays on the topic.
