Abstract

This experience report is proposing to bring out issues relating to the empowerment of families of cancer patients, their actions, difficulties, ways of coping and network services available to this audience. It also sought, together with the family, identify the difficulties that these patients face during treatment, paying attention to aspects involving also their carers. The technique of investigation of the difficulties was group interviews with caregivers of patients with cancer of the Casa Vida, in the city of Pelotas, the place for the care of cancer patients from other cities in the region, which promotes the acceptance and care for its users. In interviews, users of Casa Vida reported numerous instances where misinformation was noticed that the rights of cancer patients has also made clear the partnership formed between the family in the sense of being together in fighting the disease, this being a factor for successful treatment.Descriptors: Family; Patients; Oncology; Health services; Defense of the patient.
