ENTRE DIFERENÇAS E SIMILARIDADES: UM ESTUDO COMPARATIVO A RESPEITO DOS OLHARES SOBRE A “SAÚDE” E A “DOENÇA” EM “MANUAIS DE MEDICINA POPULAR”, HOMEOPÁTICOS E ALOPÁTICOS, DE FINAIS DO OITOCENTOS

Resumo

Compreendendo a medicina oitocentista como um complexo e vasto campo de saberes e práticas, marcado por relações e disputas, entre diferentes formatos terapêuticos sugestionados pelos diversos agentes de cura do período. Propomos analisar modelos médicos específicos, caracterizados por um tipo de olhar a respeito da “saúde” e da “doença”, bem como, pelo uso de determinadas estratégias de difusão e construção de legitimação para os formatos de cura e prevenção levantados por seus formuladores. Apresentamos uma investigação sobre o conteúdo de três “manuais de medicina popular”, publicados no final do século XIX e amplamente divulgados no período. Acreditamos que o estudo dessas fontes, em conjunto ao diálogo com outros documentos e estudos teóricos pode trazer importantes contribuições para melhor entendermos um panorama ampliado sobre o campo médico no Brasil oitocentista. Ao que parece, mesmo com a existência de diferenças praticamente inconciliáveis, alguns desses múltiplos formatos traziam elementos estruturantes comuns._____________________________________________________________Understanding nineteenth-century medicine as a complex and vast field of knowledge and practices, marked by relationships and disputes between different therapeutic formats suggested by the various healing agents of the period. We propose to analyze specific medical models, characterized by a type of view regarding "health" and "disease", as well as, by the use of certain strategies of diffusion and construction of legitimation for the formats of cure and prevention raised by their formulators. We present a study proposal based on the investigation of the content of three “popular medicine manuals”, published in the late 19th century and widely disseminated in the period. We believe that the study of these sources, together with the observation of other documents and theoretical studies, can bring important contributions to better understand a broader picture of the medical field in 19th century Brazil. It seems, even with the existence of practically irreconcilable differences, some of these multiple formats brought common structuring elements.
