Os atenienses fora da Ática no período clássico

Abstract

O vasto movimento de fundações de apoikiai da época arcaica parece quase não ter chegado até Atenas, em comparação com outras cidades como Corinto ou Mileto. As fontes são assim raras para evocar as poucas fundações atenienses da época arcaica. Por outro lado, a documentação sobre a época clássica – seja ela contemporânea ou mais tardia – enaltece a cidade da Ática, como ocorre em muitos outros assuntos. No entanto, a instalação de atenienses fora de Ática apresenta uma face bastante diferente do movimento de colonização do período arcaico – como é o caso de muitas das fundações da época clássica. Esta presença fora da cidade se insere, no caso de Atenas, em um âmbido específico. No século V a.C. a Liga de Delos (478 a.C.) permitiu a Atenas exercer uma forma de dominação sobre o território de algumas cidades aliadas. Se a derrota de Atenas em 404 a.C. marca um declínio da cidade no mundo grego, este é apenas temporário. No quarto século, antes da chegada dos macedônios, Atenas consegue se impor a muitas cidades por meio da segunda confederação de Atenas (377 a.C.). Não se trata de abordar aqui o conjunto das fundações do período clássico, mas sim de ver quais são as formas das instalações dos atenienses fora da Ática e de tentar identificar as eventuais mobilidades que isto gerou.

Abstract:

The vast movement of apoikiai foundations of the archaic period seems to have had little effect on Athens (PÉBARTHE, 2009, p.367, 373‐374)4, in comparison with other cities such as Corinth or Miletus. The sources are therefore rare to evoke the few Athenian foundations of the archaic period. On the other hand,
the documentation of the classical period – be it contemporary or later – makes, as for many subjects, the fair share of the city of Attica. However, the installation of Athenians out of Attica presents a face quite different from the settlement movement of the archaic period – as well as many other foundations of the classical period. This presence outside the city of origin, in the case of Athens, is a rather specific setting. In the fifth century, the League of Delos (478 BC) allowed Athens to exercise a form of domination over the territory of some allied cities. If the defeat of Athens in 404 marks a decline of the city in the Greek world, it
is only temporary. In the fourth century, before the arrival of the Macedonians, Athens, by means of the second Athenian confederation (377), succeeds in setting its grip in many cities.
It is not a question here of approaching all the foundations of the classical period, but of seeing what are the forms of Athenian installations outside Attica and of trying to identify possible mobilities that it generates.
