“MUI SEÑOR MIO, DESPUES DE HAUER RECONOZIDO LAS MEDIZINAS, PARESE QUE HA ENCONTRADO DE MENOS TODO LO QUE PARESE SU PAPEL”: UM ESTUDO SOBRE O TRATAMENTO DE TUMORES NO PARAGUAI COLONIAL (SÉCULOS XVII E XVIII)

Resumo

Este artigo é uma investigação acerca das concepções sobre tumores por parte dos jesuítas através de sua documentação escrita na região da Província Jesuítica do Paraguai, no Setecentos. Neste contexto, os padres e irmãos procuravam prover assistência aos enfermos, tratando de seus corpos, ao mesmo tempo em que procuravam salvar as suas almas. Entre práticas mágico-religiosas e práticas medicinais, este artigo procura levantar informações sobre os itens utilizados para os tratamentos, bem como algumas características das intervenções medicinais realizadas pelos jesuítas, através da análise de um manuscrito platino de medicina, de correspondências, de Cartas Ânuas, de listas de inventários e de listas de remessas de navios._____________________________Abstract: This article is an investigation about the Jesuits' conceptions about tumors by its written documentation in the region of the Jesuit Province of Paraguay, in the 18th century. In this context, the priests and brothers sought to provide assistance to the sick, taking care of their bodies, while trying to save their souls. Among magical-religious practices and medicinal practices, this article seeks to raise information about the items used for the treatments, as well as some characteristics of the medical interventions performed by the Jesuits, through the analysis of a platinum medical manuscript, correspondences, and Annuas Letters, inventory lists and shipment lists.
