TRABALHADORES E REPRESSÃO NO PÓS-ABOLIÇÃO EM ALEGRETE/RS

Resumo

Workers and repression in the post-abolition in Alegrete/RS Tomando como fonte as documentações hospitalares e da cadeia municipal, no artigo pretendemos analisar os mundos do trabalho no município de Alegrete, interior do Rio Grande do Sul, e perceber quais as ligações entre trabalhadores pobres e, em especial, negros, com a política de repressão e tentativa de ordenamento social que tentava se colocar no início do período republicano. As fontes oferecem ricas informações sobre diversos sujeitos que passaram pelas duas instituições, a de saúde e a policial. Além disso, através de matérias publicadas em jornais locais, que eram transcritas por periódicos de diversas cidades do país, a pesquisa ainda mostra as transformações naquele município, onde viviam as e os trabalhadores em questão. Em suma, o que se evidencia é uma ligação entre trabalho e repressão, o que diz muito sobre um dos problemas históricos que configura o pós-Abolição no Brasil.Palavras-chave: Alegrete; Repressão; Pós-Abolição; Trabalhadores; Abstract: Taking as source hospital and municipal jail documents, in this article we intend to analyze the worlds of work in the city of Alegrete, interior of Rio Grande do Sul, and to understand the connections between poor workers and, in particular, blacks, with the policy of repression and effort to social ordering that was attempted at the beginning of the republican period. The sources offer rich information about several subjects who passed through the two institutions, the hospital and the jail. In addition, through articles published in local newspapers, which were transcribed by periodicals from several cities in the country, the research still shows the transformations in that municipality, where the workers in question lived.
