Developing English learner autonomy with the aid of the flipped classroom technique
a case study
Abstract
This study aims at investigating if and how the work with the flipped classroom, a teaching technique through which students must study the course content before discussing about it in class, can help learners of English as a foreign language to become more autonomous. This qualitative case study research was developed in the Language Center at Universidade Federal de Goiás. Fourteen students and the teacher researcher participated in the research. The data collection tools used were a questionnaire, three video recorded classes, an interview done with the learners at the end of the research period and field notes written by the teacher-researcher. The results point at diverse signs of learner autonomy development.
