The Case of Algae in Marine Spatial Planning
O Caso das Algas no Planejamento Espacial Marinho
Abstract
The present study analyzes the centrality of maritime transport within capitalist accumulation dynamics, historically consolidated as a structural factor of the international economy and a source of comparative advantage. In the Brazilian context, possessing a coastline of 7,941 kilometers, this relevance is evidenced by the fact that approximately 80% of national exports in 2020 were conducted via maritime routes. However, the research problematizes the deficient logistics infrastructure, a phenomenon categorized as "Brazil Cost" (Custo Brasil), corroborated by international indices that rank national ports among the lowest globally. Given this scenario, the investigation aims to comprehend, through documentary analysis, how Marine Spatial Planning must incorporate dimensions of port infrastructure to overcome such strategic impediments to national development.
Keywords: Brazil Cost, Port Infrastructure, Capitalist Accumulation.
