Challenges of Environmental Education in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Abstract
Abstract: The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) faces major environmental challenges, including deforestation, pollution, and the overexploitation of natural resources. These issues are exacerbated by rapid urbanization and population growth. Environmental Education is considered an essential tool for raising population awareness and promoting sustainable development. However, the DRC lacks clear policies and well-defined strategies regarding environmental education. This article examines the challenges of Environmental Education in the DRC, analyzing existing legal frameworks, local and international initiatives, and the obstacles to the effective implementation of such education. The study is based on a qualitative methodology, employing bibliographic, exploratory, and documentary research. The results indicate that while the Democratic Republic of the Congo possesses a legal framework for environmental protection, it lacks a clear national policy regarding Environmental Education. The article concludes with recommendations to strengthen environmental education in the DRC, including the development of a national policy, teacher training, and the mobilization of financial resources.
