Extreme Weather Events: Hailstorm Experience Report in Bagé/RS

Abstract

Abstract: This experience report describes an extreme climatic event that occurred in the municipality of Bagé, Rio Grande do Sul, in September 2023, causing extensive damage to thousands of residences. The hailstorm inflicted severe structural damage and incurred significant financial losses throughout the municipality. Nearly two months post-storm, the city remains in the process of recovering from the aftermath. Roof tiles are distributed daily to affected families, many of whom have suffered the total loss of their furniture. Climatic events such as the one that struck Bagé disproportionately affect the population situated in conditions of vulnerability.
