Family Farming in São Lourenço do Sul/RS Case of Resilience in the Face of Climate Change
Abstract
Abstract: Family farmers reside in small rural communities and operate through the utilization of family labor, engaging in production for both subsistence and commercial purposes, typically within municipal markets. Small-scale agriculture constitutes one of the sectors most adversely impacted by the advent of climate change, which compromises the quality of natural resources, rendering adaptation a significant challenge. In this regard, the present study aims to analyze the extent to which farmers are affected by extreme climatic events, specifically prolonged droughts and flash floods, as well as the strategies employed to mitigate damages to crops and family income. This text is premised on highlighting the effects of recent climatic disasters, utilizing accounts provided by farmers participating in the municipal fair of São Lourenço do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul.
