Abstract

Resumo: O presente trabalho analisa a consolidação do Planejamento Espacial Marinho argentino, marcada pela aprovação legislativa, em agosto de 2020, da demarcação definitiva do limite exterior da plataforma continental. Fundamentada em estudos iniciados em 1997 e validados pela ONU em 2016, essa expansão jurisdicional estende-se para além das 200 milhas náuticas, abrangendo aproximadamente 56% dos espaços marítimos totais do país, desde o Atlântico Sul até a Antártida. O estudo evidencia que tal medida visa não apenas assegurar a exploração econômica de recursos pesqueiros e hidrocarbonetos, mas também fortalecer a soberania nacional frente a desafios geopolíticos. Nesse contexto, destacam-se as tensões estratégicas ao sul, envolvendo a disputa com o Reino Unido pelas Ilhas Malvinas, e as complexidades das relações bilaterais ao norte com o Brasil. Conclui-se que a nova configuração territorial amplia a margem de manobra defensiva e política da Argentina no cenário internacional.

Abstract: The present work analyzes the consolidation of Argentina's Marine Spatial Planning, marked by the legislative approval, in August 2020, of the definitive demarcation of the outer limit of the continental shelf. Grounded in studies initiated in 1997 and validated by the UN in 2016, this jurisdictional expansion extends beyond 200 nautical miles, encompassing approximately 56% of the country's total maritime spaces, stretching from the South Atlantic to Antarctica. The study highlights that this measure aims not only to secure the economic exploitation of fishery and hydrocarbon resources but also to bolster national sovereignty in the face of geopolitical challenges. In this context, strategic tensions in the south involving the dispute with the United Kingdom over the Malvinas Islands are highlighted, alongside the complexities of bilateral relations with Brazil to the north. It is concluded that this new territorial configuration expands Argentina's capacity for defensive and political maneuvering within the international arena.
