Cinema as a device for thematizing aspects related to sign language and deaf culture
Abstract
The present article isinserted in the field of the contemporary discussions on the deaf culture and its articulations with the Brazilian Sign Language – Libras. The text presents a Teaching Project titled CINELIBRAS, which was developed among academics of the most different colleges from Federal Universityof Pelotas. The aim was to develop, deepen and en courage through the cinema themes related to sign languages and deaf culture in the academics who will be future teachers. In thisway, cinema sessions were held every fort night with the exhibition of films related to sign languages and deaf culture and after that the exhibition of them there was a certain time for discussions and for students to express them selves in relation to what they had attended, providing a moment of exchange experiences. The evaluation of the project was made from narratives that the academics were asked to write after these discussions. In these narratives it was realized how much the subject of the deaf culture and of the Libras still are unknown for the academics. After the films weres hown and the moment of the discussion, the students had the opportunity to review concepts that were al ready embedded on the deaf subjects, users of Libras, and this reflection made possible conceptual changes for these future teachers.
